Let’s talk backyard weddings…

In the past year and a bit (Covid-times) I’ve done a number of these very intimate and loving ceremonies and wanted to share some of the really positive features of them.

If you’re struggling with the whole “who should we un-invite” for your formal venue ceremony and reception, consider downsizing completely to a backyard wedding.

There are so many upsides to a smaller, backyard wedding including the following:

  • Your nervousness will disappear, it’s like having a barbie at home with family and friends, only it’s your wedding.

  • You don’t have to break the news to your never-before-met aunt or uncle from overseas or interstate that you didn’t really want there anyway.

  • The catering bill for your reception will border on insignificant, and you can upscale on the quality of food and drinks including all your absolute faves (mine would be French champagne for all).

  • It might even be an excuse to do up your back garden for the wedding and reception, rather than spending the same amount of money on a venue? Then you get to enjoy the “venue” for years after.

  • Backyard weddings are as fancy or as simple as you want them to be. I’ve married couples with a legals only ceremony or a full bespoke, from the heart ceremony and every single one of them has been beautiful and exactly what the couples asked for.

  • If you want to engage a photographer your time with them will be shorter and therefore cost less. ( I know some knockout togs).

  • I love it when couples arrive in fancy cars and you can still do this … or not.

  • Entertainment … I have a list of several high-quality entertainers who will do the most perfect job in your backyard, alternatively you can create your own playlist and play it from your own sound system free of charge.

  • There are minimal time restrictions, if you want to keep going past midnight there are no additional staff charges.

Your options are endless but remember you have options that won’t be too impacted if the restrictions change suddenly.

I love working with couples who do just what they want for their wedding ceremony rather than follow the pack because they think they have to. It’s your wedding day and should be a reflection of you and your love. If you know exactly how you want your wedding ceremony to pan out, or are undecided and want to chat with me, get in touch today.

Numbers for home gatherings in SA vary given the range of COVID-19 restrictions we have experienced during the recent year or so and for the latest updates on the restrictions, see this site: https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/restrictions-and-responsibilities/activities-and-gatherings/current-activity-restrictions.
