Rituals - Unity Sand Blending

A Unity Sand Ceremony is a symbolic ritual joining two families providing a lasting memento of your special day.

It’s particularly poignant when couples have children from previous relationships who are acknowledged and able to participate.

Together the family creates a piece of art representative of the love shared during the day.

Each person has a coloured bottle of sand to pour and blend into a hand-picked jar or vase symbolising that each is different but as one with their love.

As each pours their sand the Celebrant explains the symbolism of the colour of sand, an interesting component.

The separate grains of sand represent different lives up until that day – individual and unique, however blending as a family during the ceremony.

Each grain of sand, its own colour, united and unable to be separated.

The vase being used to hold the blended sand can be left partially filled if more children are planned and expected so that everyone can participate in the symbolism. This can be included in future naming ceremonies.
